Written by neal on May 20th, 2011Top 10 in 2010
Written by neal on December 17th, 2010Well it’s that time of the year again and it’s time to look through the plethora of photos that I took over the year and signal out my top 10. They are in order of when I took them throughout the year, and only include photos that I have taken in 2010, and uploaded — there are a few that would have made this list, but I am a bit behind in sharing my work.
#1 Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai
This photo was taken in March, whilst I was in Dubai. I have several great photos from the trip — this one is my favourite of the ones uploaded so far.
#2 Tram in Porto
The trip to Porto this year was brief but great. I love this little town in Portugal and I suspect that I’ll visit there again!
#3 The Carviza
In Porto, we were travelling from the seaside back into the heart of the city and I saw this abandoned ship beached in low tide.
#4 The London Elephant Parade
There were a bunch of elephants dotted around London in the spring and my wife was on a mission to shoot them all. I came along to a few of the many weekend excursions and enjoyed taking a few photos of the pachyderms.
#5 Château Pichon-Longueville
One of my favourite trips this year was to France. We spent a day driving the left bank of Bordeaux and this picture of Château Pichon-Longueville was one of my favourites – the wine isn’t too bad either!
#6 Albi Boathouse
As we continued around France, we were told that a stop to Albi was essential. They have a magnificent set of bridges and from one I took a picture of this small boathouse.
#7 Millau Viaduct
The Millau Viaduc in France was always going to be a great stop on our trip for me. What I didn’t imagine was that we would arrive at the golden hour, with a storm arriving on one side of the bridge and brilliant sunshine on the other. This made for some spectacular photos!
#8 The Cathedral in Le Puy-en-Velay
After ascending half of a mountain to reach the cathedral, on the way back to the vehicles I turned around and caught the sun hitting the side of the building.
#9 The Law Sisters
This summer I was contacted by a friend’s mother asking if I could take some pictures of her lovely daughters in London, as they were planning on being together for a short period of time. The shoot was great fun, and I have chosen this picture from the set as a lesson to myself. It was so close to being the shot of the day! The sun hitting the girls from the left, a slight breeze highlighting the hair, great smiles and good composition! The only problem is that I was shoot with my 50mm lens in aperture priority mode and the depth of field is too shallow, which means that the two girls are slightly out-of-focus. Oh well, there were several other excellent photos on the day and next time I’ll remember to stop down when I compose a photo like this.
#10 Street shoot
I like this picture because of the playfulness and the expression on the model’s face. The rest of the shoot went well, and street shooting itself is quite fun and interesting — especially in London.
Well that’s all folks. I hope that you enjoyed my top 10 of 2010
Cheers!

Written by neal on July 6th, 2010At the moment in London, there are a whole bunch of Elephants that have been placed around the city to raise awareness and money for the Asian Elephant. The organisation, Elephant Parade London 2010 has details of the elephants, their locations and their artists.
Here are a selection of elephants that I have seen and taken pictures of:
